Dermal fillers: getting you the best results

What You Need To Know Before the Needle

At GILD Clinic we do hundreds of filler treatments every month. It is our most popular treatment for both our clients and our practitioners! High quality fillers can give beautiful natural-looking results that just weren’t possible 5-10 years ago – it’s a treatment that has evolved significantly within the last decade.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are an injectable gel that can be placed in the skin (dermis), facial fat or bone structure. Depending on which filler is chosen and where it is placed it is used either to shape the face or plump and hydrate the skin.

Most fillers used in the UK are made of hyaluronic acid – a naturally occuring moisturiser that is already present in your skin. These types of fillers break down naturally over time and so the cosmetic effect is temporary. Hyaluronic acid  fillers are by far the safest to use; they are soft, moldable and dissolvable if a reaction were to occur. At GILD Clinic we only use dissolvable fillers and only use brands that have FDA approval – the highest mark of safety for medical devices.

What are they used for?

The most common treatment areas are cheeks (for sculpting cheekbones and plumping) and lips (to hydrate, volumise and shape). However, dermal fillers can be used almost anywhere on the face. As you age there are changes in shape and structure to the entirety of your face and all of these changes can be tweaked with correctly applied dermal filler.

The image below shows you all of the facial areas that can be treated; the most common treatment areas can be treated in either our private or our training clinics, however, the more specialist treatment areas are only available in our private appointments.

The way that fillers are applied is very artistic – with each treatment carefully adapted to suit your individual facial features. During your consultation you will have the time to discuss exactly what you want and your practitioner will assess your facial proportions to advise the best treatment options for you.

What happens on the day?

The filler that we use at GILD Clinic contains a small amount of anaesthetic to make the treatment more comfortable. Additional anaesthetic can be used if required and generally speaking these treatments are not painful. You can expect to see the results of your filler treatment immediately  and the treatment itself lasts no longer than an hour. Often the treatment lasts only a few minutes and you are free to return to work right away. Result from fillers last from 6 months to as long as 18 months depending on the area treated and the type of filler used.

Dermal fillers look their best 4 weeks after treatment and so bear this in mind if you have an important event to plan for!
