What Microneedling Really Does to Your Face
Everything you should know about this rejuvenating multi-purpose skin treatment.
What’s the skincare benefit of Microneedling?
Microneedling is an amazing skin rejuvenation treatment. It stimulates our fibroblasts to produce more collagen and activate the skin’s natural repair mechanism. Results? Healthy radiant and youthful looking skin, less prominent fine lines, smaller pores and improved skin texture.
How does the treatment work? Is it suitable for all skin types?
Microneedling creates hundreds of tiny controlled-depth micro punctures to the skin surface to trigger the body’s natural healing process. The treatment is comfortable and pain free with the use of anaesthetic cream. At Gild Clinic we use SkinPen, the only FDA approved microneedling device on the UK market. It provides the safest, cleanest and highest standard of microneedling treatment available and it is suitable for all skin types, including black skin. One of the benefits of this device is that you can create a bespoke treatment for everyone by choosing a different length of microneedle depending on the skin area or concern that you would like to treat. From very superficial treatments for a gentle skin rejuvenation to deeper treatment for acne scars and deep wrinkles.
Will my skin be left with visible holes? What’s the downtime afterwards?
Not at all! The size of the needle which we are using during the treatment is tiny! But what you can definitely expect after the treatment is mild redness and dryness which may last for a few days. But don’t worry – you can apply make-up the next day and go to work as usual. No one will notice that you had a treatment a day before. In Gild Clinic we provide full aftercare advice including free samples of products which will help you to minimise any downtime after your treatment.
Can it work as a one-off treatment?
We recommend a course of 3 treatments for best results but if you would like to try it as a one off treatment please do. You will still be able to see improvement in your skin but most of our clients who have tried this treatment want to come back and have more. Remember that healthy skin habits require commitment, that is why I always recommend a course of treatments alongside medical grade skin care regime at home.
You can buy microneedling devices to use at home – is this a good idea?
No! The internet is a powerful tool, you can buy anything now! But first think about the risks of buying a treatment device online – microneedling is a medical treatment which requires a medical hygienic environment and an experienced aesthetic practitioner. Buying a manual dermaroller from an unknown source it’s not a great idea – it is less hygienic, less effective and potentially even damaging to your skin.
Do you need a consultation beforehand?
Yes – consultation is an essential part of your experience and ensures that you receive the best treatment for your skin. For microneedling there is no skin preparation required and so you are able to have a consultation and your treatment on the same day.
